Namma Metro (Our metro) / The Bangalore Metro (Kannada: ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮೆಟ್ರೊ) is the proposed mass-transit rail system for the city of Bangalore, India. The agency responsible for its implementation is Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd(BMRCL). Navayuga Engineering has been awarded the contract to construct Reach 1 on the East-West line.  Five consortia have been shortlisted as general consultants for the project.

A detailed project report prepared by the DMRC and RITES envisaged a 33km elevated and underground rail network with 32 stations for Phase I of the project. The proposed gauge is standard gauge unlike the broad gauge on the Delhi Metro network.

In 2007, BMRCL announced that it would incorporate a northern extension (from Yeshwantpur to Hessarghatta Cross) and part of the southern extension (from RV Road to Puttenahalli) in Phase I, thus extending the length of Phase I network to about 42 km, with 40 stations. The objective of this was to connect the Metro to the Outer Ring Road at both ends, as also cover the industrial areas of Peenya in the North-West, thereby providing better connectivity and increasing ridership. In October 2008, the Government of Karnataka approved this extension, which would cost an additional Rs.1592 crore.

Construction work was scheduled to start in 2005 but was delayed by a February 2006 change of government in the state of Karnataka and continued debate over whether the project was financially feasible and appropriate for the city. On 25 April 2006 the Indian cabinet approved the project, which was then budgeted at more than Rs.5400 crore (about US$1.2 billion). The foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on June 24, 2006.  Construction on Reach-1 of the project between MG Road and Baiyyappanahalli commenced in 2007, and work on Phase-1 of the project is scheduled to be completed by 2012. The first line is scheduled to open in December 2011.

East-West Corridor (The Violet Route, 18.1km)

Stations: Baiyappanahalli, Old Madras Road, C M H Road, Ulsoor, Trinity Circle, M G Road, Cricket Stadium, Vidhana Soudha, Central College, Majestic, City Railway Station, Magadi Road, Tollgate, Hosahalli, Vijayanagar, Deepanjalinagar, Mysore Road.

Phase II

Lines built during Phase-I are likely to be extended further. The Technology clusters in the South & East of the City are planned to be connected with Yelahanka in the North. Route alignments are yet to be finalized.

Delhi-6 is a forthcoming Hindi film (Bollywood) film directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra starring Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni, and Divya Dutta. The movie is reportedly based on Mehra's growing up years in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi. The film will be Mehra's third directorial venture after critically acclaimed Aks and the immensely successful Rang De Basanti.

American-born Indian, Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) brings his ailing grandmother back to India. Little does he know that the quick trip will turn into the longest journey of his life - a journey within. The backdrop of the story is the ancient walled city of Delhi, better known as Chandni Chowk, a character in herself. It represents the chaos, religion, beliefs and ethos of the Indian people. The PIN code of that part of the city is 110006, and it is traditional to use only one or two digits of the pin code after Delhi.

In the early stages of development it was rumored that Rakeysh was going to cast newcomers for his next movie. It was even reported that Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan would make his debut with this film, but this was later revealed to be "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Frequent changes in casting made headlines, with Hrithik Roshan being set to play the main character and then he being reportedly replaced by Ranbir Kapoor Even Akshay Kumar was reportedly roped in to play the lead, but refused. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has gone on record to state that Abhishek Bachchan was always the first choice for Delhi-6. Date problems for Abhishek Bachchan delayed the film, but it all worked out in the end with Abhishek portraying the lead actor in the film which was the plan from day one. Sonam Kapoor, daughter of Anil Kapoor, who made her debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, reportedly confirmed taking part in the movie and is paired with Abhishek Bachchan. Rishi Kapoor and Tanvi Azmi are also a part of the film. The film went on the floors December 20, 2007. Amitabh Bachchan reportedly has a small role in the film where he is supposed to play the grandfather to Roshan, played by Abhishek Bachchan. Waheeda Rahman will play the grandmother of the same character. Gulshan Grover has been roped in to play Abhishek Bachchan's dad in the film. Editing for the film is being done by Meghna Aschit and Rakeysh's wife Bharthi. In an interview Rakeysh said that he is not involved with the editing and is really curious to see the outcome of his work on the movie.

Release

The movie was supposed to be released on February 13, 2009, but recent reports claimed that A. R. Rahman's continued absence from the project has led to a delay of the film getting released. A source has reported that Rahman's continued absence to attend other award shows, where Slumdog Millionaire has won, has resulted in the movies's back ground score being incomplete and hence a delay in release by one week. The movie will finally release on February 20, 2009.

Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14 by many people throughout the world. In the West, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery. The day was originally a pagan festival that was renamed after two Early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines." Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten notes have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards. The sending of Valentines was a fashion in nineteenth-century Great Britain, and, in 1847, Esther Howland developed a successful business in her Worcester, Massachusetts home with hand-made Valentine cards based on British models. The popularity of Valentine cards in 19th-century America was a harbinger of the future commercialization of holidays in the United States.

The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year, behind Christmas. The association estimates that, in the US, men spend in average twice as much money as women.

Numerous early Christian martyrs were named Valentine. Until 1969, the Catholic Church formally recognized eleven Valentine's Days. The Valentines honored on February 14 are Valentine of Rome (Valentinus presb. m. Romae) and Valentine of Terni (Valentinus ep. Interamnensis m. Romae). Valentine of Rome was a priest in Rome who suffered martyrdom about AD 269 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. His relics are at the Church of Saint Praxed in Rome. and at Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church in Dublin, Ireland.

Valentine of Terni became bishop of Interamna (modern Terni) about AD 197 and is said to have been killed during the persecution of Emperor Aurelian. He is also buried on the Via Flaminia, but in a different location than Valentine of Rome. His relics are at the Basilica of Saint Valentine in Terni (Basilica di San Valentino).

The Catholic Encyclopedia also speaks of a third saint named Valentine who was mentioned in early martyrologies under date of February 14. He was martyred in Africa with a number of companions, but nothing more is known about him.

No romantic elements are present in the original early medieval biographies of either of these martyrs. By the time a Saint Valentine became linked to romance in the fourteenth century, distinctions between Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni were utterly lost.

In the 1969 revision of the Roman Catholic Calendar of Saints, the feastday of Saint Valentine on February 14 was removed from the General Roman Calendar and relegated to particular (local or even national) calendars for the following reason: "Though the memorial of Saint Valentine is ancient, it is left to particular calendars, since, apart from his name, nothing is known of Saint Valentine except that he was buried on the Via Flaminia on February 14." The feast day is still celebrated in Balzan (Malta) where relics of the saint are claimed to be found, and also throughout the world by Traditionalist Catholics who follow the older, pre-Vatican II calendar.

The Early Medieval acta of either Saint Valentine were excerpted by Bede and briefly expounded in Legenda Aurea. According to that version, St Valentine was persecuted as a Christian and interrogated by Roman Emperor Claudius II in person. Claudius was impressed by Valentine and had a discussion with him, attempting to get him to convert to Roman paganism in order to save his life. Valentine refused and tried to convert Claudius to Christianity instead. Because of this, he was executed. Before his execution, he is reported to have performed a miracle by healing the blind daughter of his jailer.

Legenda Aurea still providing no connections whatsoever with sentimental love, appropriate lore has been embroidered in modern times to portray Valentine as a priest who refused an unattested law attributed to Roman Emperor Claudius II, allegedly ordering that young men remain single. The Emperor supposedly did this to grow his army, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers. The priest Valentine, however, secretly performed marriage ceremonies for young men. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine arrested and thrown in jail. In an embellishment to The Golden Legend, on the evening before Valentine was to be executed, he wrote the first "valentine" himself, addressed to a young girl variously identified as his beloved, as the jailer's daughter whom he had befriended and healed, or both. It was a note that read "From your Valentine."

Billu originally entitled Billu Barber (Hindi: बिल्लू, Urdu: بِلّو ) is a 2009 Bollywood film by Priyadarshan, produced by Gauri Khan, with an adapted screenplay by Manisha Korde and Mushtaq Sheikh based on the script by Sreenivasan. It stars Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta in the lead roles and Shahrukh Khan in a cameo role of a movie star. The film also features Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani in supporting roles with guest appearances by actresses Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra.

The film is a remake of the hugely successful Indian film, in the Malayalam language, Kadha Parayumbol (2007). It is slated to be released on February 13, 2009.

Billu Barber is a story of a simple ordinary man who led an extra ordinary life. Bilas Rao Pardesi (Irrfan Khan) was living in his village with his wife Bindiya (Lara Dutta) and two great kids. Life was bitter sweet... we can say more sweet than bitter.
